Hello, Ottawa is soon to approve a new official plan, but I'm worried this plan does nothing to solve Ottawa's housing crisis. Housing is more unaffordable than ever in Ottawa, and I'm counting on you to take meaningful action to solve this problem. Five years ago, we had 421 homes per 1000 people. Today, we have 403 homes per 1000 people. The Official Plan, as drafted, will take 25 years to undo the damage of the last five years — and gets us nowhere near where we need to be. The average in G7 countries is 471 homes per 1000 people. We would need to build 72,000 homes today just to be average. I don't want to live in an average city — I want to live in a world-class city that makes housing affordability a top priority. I'm writing to ask you to fix the plan. We need to amend our Official Plan to include more housing, so that young people can buy their first homes. Ottawa must be a world-class city for everyone — not just the super wealthy. Please fix the plan to include more housing. This one isn't good enough!
